If you lived under a rock and had no idea National Movie Day, here’s the deal. You missed a great chance to watch your favorite movie recently released in the cinema with tickets priced at just Rs 75.

While many people showed reluctance to visit cinemas post-lockdown, not least because movies sometimes end up releasing on OTT in just a few weeks, this was a good opportunity to bring moviegoers back to cinemas. And that’s exactly what happened. Moviegoers set a new record.

Record set on National Film Day

More than 4,000 screens took part in the initiative to celebrate National Cinema Day. This included movie channels like PVR, INOX, CARNIVAL, CINEPOLIS, MIRAJ, M2K, MOVIE TIME, WAVE, CITYPRIDE, MUKTA A2 and DELITE, among others.

More than 6.5 million cinemas visited with shows starting as early as 6 a.m. due to unprecedented demand, making September 23 the busiest day of the year.

You could have watched any of these movies for Rs 75 yesterday – Chup: Revenge Of The Artist, Brahmastra, Sita Ramam, Avatar, 777 Charlie and more.

Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor, Brahmastra, saw 85% occupancy yesterday. Director Ayan Mukerji is heading for Rs 250 crore domestically. The film reportedly collected Rs 370 crore at the global box office.

In a statement, MIA Said, “The Multiplex Association of India and Cinemas across India, invites moviegoers to spend a day at the cinema with a celebratory entry fee of ₹75 to mark the National Day National Cinema Day had previously been announced on September 16, however, at the request of various “stakeholders” and in order to maximize attendance, it would now be held on September 23.”

“National Cinema Day celebrates the successful reopening of cinemas and is a ‘thank you’ to moviegoers who have made this possible. National Cinema Day is also an invitation to moviegoers who have yet to return to a theater near them India has a thriving domestic film industry and has seen one of the strongest recoveries in the film exhibition sector globally.The first quarter of FY23 saw an impressive number of cinema operators through global and local tentpoles that resonated with Indian audiences.The quarter was marked by the release of some of the biggest domestic hits like KGF: Chapter 2, RRR, Vikram, Bhool Bhulaiya 2 and Hollywood hits like Doctor Strange and Top Gun Maverick,” he added.
