Rock concerts: music still a mainstay

While the Junior Fair and Open Class Dairy Shows remain the backbone of the Central Wisconsin State Fair, this year’s musical entertainment was a resounding success.

Memories’ 50th anniversary show drew standing crowds to the Family Entertainment tent on August 24, as the three original members – Tim Stevens, Warren Petryk and John Lynch – once again performed together.

Beautiful weather and crowds enjoyed the Eagles Hotel California tribute act on the grandstand stage on August 24.

Hair ball

Rock tribute band Hairball drew crowds of fans to their grandstand show on August 25, as they paid tribute to some of the greatest bands of all time, including Kiss, Van Halen, Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe, Queen, Ozzy Osbourne and AC/DC. Much like Hotel California, Hairball brought great musicianship and stage presence, along with infectious vocal similarities and harmonies.

A sold-out crowd filled the grandstands and trackside seats for country star Gary Allan on August 26. The show also featured the Diamonds & Whiskey opening act. The country rock duo also performed after the show.

While kids of all ages still come together for mainstays like the Dress-A-Cow Contest, Fair Trade Good Food and Well-Executed 4-Hs and other projects, the music still provides a steady beat of success and popularity among fair goers.
