Mind-blowing underrated horror is among the movies on TV tonight

Look at this one, it’s very good!

You know, dear reader, Monday isn’t the most exciting day on the TV schedule, it seems.

To witness it; many of the movies below seem to be on all the time. In fact, I didn’t even know if I was even going to bother with this article today, such is the ‘Oh cool, Unforgiven is back, isn’t it?’ nature of tonight’s lineup.

YET. Just when it seemed like all hope was lost, Horror Channel has an absolute gem that few people have seen, quite frankly.

We’ll come back to that in a moment. But first, let’s look at this thing in chronological order. Here’s what it looks like on the Monday, May 9 box…

Sahara – Film4 – 6:45 p.m.

Matthew McConaughey goes on a treasure hunt in the sun.

Jaws 2 – ITV4 – 9 p.m.

It was another shark.

Skyscraper – Film4 – 9 p.m.

The Rock finds himself fighting for his family in a very high and very dangerous building.

V for Vendetta – Classic Turner Movies – 9pm

Uneven yet ambitious and effective dystopian thriller in which a theatrical vigilante aims to bring down a tyrannical dictatorship and exact personal revenge in the process.

Triangle – Horror Channel – 9pm

That’s it, guys. It’s the right one. It’s our main choice tonight.

Released in 2009, Triangle tells the story of Jess (Melissa George), a young mother who goes on a boat trip with a friend and a few strangers, only for a storm to hit. Taking refuge on a nearby cruise liner, the group discovers that the ship is entirely abandoned except for a masked figure with murder in mind.

What follows is a clever sci-fi flavored horror puzzle that pays off with a great ending. Plus, the movie is only about 99 minutes long and has a more than respectable 80% on Rotten Tomatoes. Climb on board.

Tully – TG4 – 10:15 p.m.

Charlize Theron and Mackenzie Davis attempt to bond in this whimsical comedy-drama.

Slumdog Millionaire – Movie4 – 11:05 p.m.

Danny Boyle’s award-winning drama about a lowly tea seller’s attempts to make a fortune on a game show and the growing controversy that ensues.

Unforgiven – Classic Turner Films – 11:45 p.m.

I told you it was on.

Maniac – Horror Channel – 00:45

Elijah Wood takes on the lead role in this grisly horror remake of a serial killer, whose crimes are presented in first-person throughout the film.
