Hear Underoath and Ghostemane team up on ‘Cycle’

Underoath is teaming up with genre blur artist Ghostemane on new single “Cycle”.

About the collaboration, guitarist Tim McTague says:

“When we were writing ‘Cycle’ I knew I wanted to have a feature film on deck. I wanted something abstract, and ideally hip-hop. I heard a cadence that was not natural for our group.

“Ghostemane came in as a convo, and we all loved the idea. I had been listening to it for a minute, and the connection between Underoath / Lil Peep put me on the South Florida squad like Pouya, Ghostemane and Lil Peep (RIP).

“We tried to reach him for weeks, and one day Aaron called me and told me that Ghostemane had randomly instagrammed him to tell him that he appreciated what we do, and Aaron replied that we were trying to reach him to be on a track on the new album. The floodgates opened, all the managers and artists started connecting and I sent the song to his manager. ‘ We listened to the first thing he sent and we just said, “That’s it.” I don’t think any of us knew what we were looking for in the feature film, but when I heard the take, the lyrics and the energy, we were like, ‘Oh shit. That’s perfect.’ “

Vocalist Spencer Chamberlain continues, “Whenever I hear the song now, time warps me directly about how I felt when we wrote these lyrics and what we were going through back then. the third chorus takes me back to when we wrote the lyrics and hopefully we’ll have the chance to play it together live one day.

Underoath’s new album, Voyeurist, falls on January 14. The group will begin their North American tour with Every Time I Die and Spiritbox next year. See all dates here.
