With each passing year, it’s becoming more and more common to see Asian-American stories in movies — and Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month is the perfect time to watch them.

While you may have heard of “Crazy Rich Asians” and “The Joy Luck Club” before, there are plenty of other highly regarded films featuring prominent Asian-American voices. Whatever the month, these films are all worth

Our selection represents films featuring Asian American artists in front of or behind the camera. This list is far from covering all interesting entries, but it is a good starting point.

When choosing films for our roundup, we limited our selection to films that meet these criteria:

  • Films must feature AAPI actors and/or filmmakers
  • Movies must be rated “fresh” on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes

We’ve also made sure that our selections include a variety of genres; not all movies need to be about the emotional and financial baggage that comes with immigration (although we love them too). Keep scrolling to find feel-good comedies, heartbreaking dramas, martial arts action movies and more, all featuring Asian American Pacific Islanders.
